One of our clients is great at concept development with a functional twist! When they first came up with the idea of a cat’s bottom pencil sharpener they were happy with small production runs in the UK. But as demand grew and they started looking for more profit they knew they needed to start considering overseas manufacturing. They were, however, very uneasy about exposing their designs to a Chinese manufacturer.
The brief
- Find a cheaper manufacturer without compromising the design confidentiality.
Our action
- Sourced a highly reputable manufacturer in China.
- Brokered a non-disclosure agreement with the manufacturer before showing them the designs.
The results
- Tooling was 25% of the UK cost.
- Final product was 50% cheaper than the previous UK manufacturer.
- Unique product which has been featured on Channel 4's Paul O'Grady show creating huge demand.
Latest
The product has since been shipped to Australia, Japan, Italy and the UK. Our client is now developing a number of new products which are all channelled through the exclusive distributors that they've established around the world.
